A squeeze page is usually a page that has one purpose – to encourage people to subscribe to your mailing list or newsletter. The concept of building a targeted list of subscribers isn’t new. Direct mail marketers have been using forms or coupons in newspapers, magazines and posters for well over 100 years. In this electronic age that we live in, one of the primary methods of building a list of subscribers is with a mailing list or autoresponder.
A squeeze page (also known as a lead capture page) can be as simple as a small form with some relevant information that invites people to sign up to a newsletter or mailing list. It may also include a free report and carry a bold headline that calls the person to action.
The common process for using a squeeze page involves a few simple, automated steps. A person visits your squeeze page. If they decide to subscribe to your mailing list they will fill in their name and email address and submit the form. If your mailing list is double opt-in (which is should be!) then they will receive an email at the address they entered, asking them to confirm that they do want to subscribe to your list. They then click a link which confirms their subscription and activates their email address in your mailing list.
If you were giving away a free report, you would usually include the download link to the report in your confirmation message or the first message in your autoresponder series so that they receive the link after they have confirmed their subscription.
